Lobby School workshops are bootcamp style hands-on, how-to State Government Affairs professional skills development training. You complete each workshop knowing how “to do” and with supplemental resources how to apply your training in the field. Each workshop includes a detailed skills application manual(s) that goes much deeper into a topic than that which can be presented in a single lecture and accompanying workbook.

Workshop 1: Managing Contract Lobbying (4 hours, NEW)
Managing Contract Lobbying develops sophisticated managers and consumers of contract lobbying services able to accomplish more with their contract lobbyists. Includes three skills development activities and Manual 5, Winning with Lobbyists, Professional edition.

Workshop 2: How to Successfully Lobby State Legislatures (8 hours)

This training is the foundation of the Campaign Method for More Effective State Government Affairs, a methodology used across the United States by hundreds of organizations. Includes four skills development activities and Manual 2, Glossary of Legislative Concepts and Representative Terms and Manual 3, How to Successfully Lobby State Legislatures: Guide to State Legislative Lobbying, 4th edition- Revised, Updated, Expanded.

Workshop 3: How to Successfully Lobby State Regulatory Agencies (4 hours)

Executive agencies make approximately 90 percent of the body of law via the rulemaking process. Agency lobbying is very different from that used in the legislative process. Includes two skills development activities and Manual 6, Guide to Executive Branch Agency Rulemaking.

Each session has its own workbook which in sum for the three trainings consists of over 300 pages of checklists and practice tips. Participants gain self-confidence and the insights and skills to empower them to participate effectively in lawmaking by both legislatures and regulatory agencies.

The Lobby School Certificate of Completion (by request) will attest to your investment in training in professional advocacy skills and credentials.

Having been in plenty of dogfights in both Richmond, Virginia and Washington, D.C., I can assure you that Bob’s class is one that beginners and seasoned veterans can benefit from. His no-nonsense approach is a very pragmatic view of how to be effective. I highly recommend his class to beginners as well as old warhorses like myself!
